Holiday Gifts: Painted Porcelain Teapots

Hello everybody! I’m back from my little holiday vacation which I’ve spent in Ukraine with my family. Great times, though I was a bit sad as I didn’t have a chance to meet my friends this time. Thank you all for your sweet comments on my birthday and New Year! Starting from today I’m beginning a new and exciting year full of great projects and creativity (and hopefully traveling ). I wish the same to all of you!

I have one last project from 2009 to share with you. It is divided into two parts. Part 1: hand-painted porcelain teapots that I made as gifts for my parents. I’ve tried painting on glass before, but only with children’s paint. This time I played around with great quality  Decorfin Porcelain Paint from Royal Talens. What a great paint! I loved it!

After painting and drying you can bake your painted porcelain for 45 minutes in the oven and it will become water resistant and ready to be used and even washed in the dishwasher! How cool is that? I bought two cute white porcelain teapots and got down to work. The paint was a pleasure to work with! I made a couple of layers for the flowers, but you can also dissolve the paint with water and work in transparent watercolor style.

Here are the results of my work and play:

Peony Teapot

I’m really enjoying working with different surfaces and porcelain is definitely great to paint on! These two cuties were given as holiday gifts for my and Alex’s parents. They are happily full of hot tea every day now! :) These teapots are the first members of a little painted porcelain series the rest of which I will show you soon.
