Work Process: Elephant In a Porcelain Shop

Hey everybody! Hope your are having a great week! I thought I would share the process behind creating my illustrations from Rondy the Elephant series. I painted my newest illo Elephant in a Porcelain Shop yesterday and was sharing the process on TwitPic and Twitter. It took me some time, but I was pleased with the result :) Here is the process…


 

Here I am all ready for work. Coming up with the concept:

Yay! Found an exciting topic for this illustration – one of my favorite childhood sayings -

Elephant In a Porcelain Shop

It means a clumsy or awkward person. It’s variant is “Bull in a chine shop”.

As a child I would always imagine a cute and clumsy big elephant trying to catch all those cups and plates :)

The sketch is coming along….

Starting painting now…

Finished transferring the sketch to the watercolor paper:

Painting background with my acrylics – blue of course ;) :

Rough background layer of my illustration is done:

Now to details… Here is the finished painting
