“Save for stocks” script
It is always great to save some time and this script truely helps to save you time for more creative things than saving your vector illustrations in different formats. “Save for stocks” script for Adobe Illustrator manages saving a file package (EPS 8 and two JPEGS, bigger and smaller) for micro-stock websites. Now it is for you to download.
“Save for stocks” was written by my husband Alex for me. I’ve been using it for a couple of months and it works great. It is tested on Adobe Illustrator CS3, but it should work with other versions too. Works on both Mac OS and PC. It saves 3 files: EPS 8, big JPEG (minimum 2800×1900 px) for Istockphoto and small JPEG (500x…px) for Shutterstock.
How to install:
1) Download the script for free in ZIP format and decompress it;
2) Save the script in the Scripts folder (Illustrator CS3/Presets/Scripts);
3) Restart Illustrator.
4) Script appears in the Scripts menu (File > Scripts) of Illustrator and ready for use.
Update: download an updated version of “Save For Stocks” script!

Hello, nice touch with this script, I have one question: do I need to rename file extension from .js to .jsx in order for script to work in CS3?
Thanks
Привет!
Хотела попробовать твой скрипт, но он у меня на CS2 отказывается работать:(
Выдает:
Error 9031: You must provide a file path for documents which have not been saved
Line 48
Doc. save ()
Может твой муж в курсе, что это за ерунда такая. А то обидно…
Hi Flitter,
No, you don’t have to rename the script. It works with extension .js in Oksancia’s CS3. Although I think that if you would rename it, it still should work :)
Thanks for the interest!
Hi Anna,
At the moment we don’t have a CS2 in the house. However, the script was initially tested for that version.
It looks like you tried to use the script on an illustration that had not been saved yet. You must save your work to .ai file first. Then the script will save jpegs to the same folder.
Hopefully this helps :) Please write if it still does not work.
Thank you, Alex
Everything is workong now!
Can I write about your script in my blog:
anna-volkova.blogspot.com ?
I mean “working”
2 Anna,
You are welcome :) Sure you can write about it. Thanks!

Is it possible, to add keywords to a file in Adobe Illustrator and then to use your skript? (It’d be greate, if jpeg files were with keywords inside )

Hi Nadiya,
Thanks for the interest. It is a great idea to add keywords automatically to the saved files. However, I don’t know how to do that so far. As soon as I figure that out, the script will be modified :) Stay in touch!
Hi,

Anant
Хорошая статья, как и все предыдущие были. Буду теперь и дальше следить .
В нашем офисе так нудно было, хорошо что нашел ваш сайт. Читаю с огромным интересом:)
cute script!! thanks! but does not save file info from AI file (( keywords, description…
The script has been useful and saved time.thanks. However, now in a few days shutterstock is changing the file requirements ( increasing acceptable file size to 15Mb and requiring vector files to adhere to illustrator 10). The script will no longer be useful for submission to them . Do you expect to share a revised script??

After you saved the zip file, search for it, double click, and after you see the SaveForStocks.js file, right click on it, Copy. Then you go in the C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Illustrator CS3\Presets\Scripts\ folder, and right click, Paste. That’s it :)

[...] And now, let’s see the links! 1. Optimistic Art – Oksancia’s blog I found here my preferred script, that helps me when i’m working for micro-stock sites. This script saves an EPS file, and two JPG’s from your work, so you don’t need to make these boring steps again and again. Here is the link: http://oksancia.com/news/save-for-stocks-script [...]
Thanks for the Script is there any way of making the JPG file larger as I send my files to Fotolia and they ask for 5000px the longest side.
Cheers
Thank you, Frank! I am traveling at the moment and will get back to you later.
